About the workshop
This new workshop will focus on leadership and management skills within rule of law institutions such as courts and tribunals, Ministries of Justice and related agencies, and how these skills can be used effectively while upholding the crucially important principle of judicial independence. It will examine the relationship
between judicial independence and judicial leadership and consider a range of leadership models relevant to rule of law institutions. It will also explore performance, quality management and change management in a legal/judicial context, training skills for legal trainers and a suite of skills to help you manage day-to-day operations and develop staff motivation. The workshop also aims to help you to improve your interpersonal skills in leading and managing people.
What the workshop will cover
The week will include briefing sessions, discussions, practical work and site visits to relevant legal/judicial institutions to examine:
• Judicial independence from a UK and international perspective
• Judicial leadership and management concepts and models
• Managing performance and quality standards in rule of law institutions
• Core competencies for effective leadership and management
• Building self-awareness, understanding managerial styles and developing personal skills
• Emotional intelligence and personal impact
• Managing change and managing people
• Training of trainers and coaching skills for leaders and managers.
