Over the past decade, there has been a shift in fundamental organisational dynamics. In all sectors, there has been a move away from traditional values towards a triple bottom line of “people, planet, and profitability.” The new paradigm is sustainability – a broad concept that is defined as meeting present needs whilst not compromising the needs of future generations.

The three pillars of environment, social and governance (ESG) convey a more nuanced approach to sustainability. The climate change debates throughout the world have very likely been the main trigger for the special interest in the environment. Starting in the private sector, the drive for sustainability has stimulated trillions of dollars in investments (primarily in the bond markets) and has led to proportionate reactions from governments, NGOs and business services, particularly in the accountancy, audit and legal professions.

In this webinar, we introduce the essential concepts and main factors of ESG as it applies to all major economic sectors. We cover the impact on international organisations, from the United Nations to international accountancy organisations that have developed private sector standards and are developing public sector ones.

Our webinar aims to de-mystify the apparent complexities of ESG so that participants from across the world can strengthen their own organisations to become fully sustainable for the benefit of people, planet and profitability (or funding).

The webinar will be led by Dr Peter Boulding. He is well placed to offer insights into the Economic, Social and Governance (ESG) or sustainability agenda. He has recently delivered ESG workshops and worked on sustainability programmes for the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland (ICAS), Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). At the University of Durham Department of Geography, Peter studied environmental geography and environmental perception under leading academics. He went on to complete a social science PhD (Economic and Social Research Council linked award) at the same department.
